CultureMap Reports Art Car Museum Will Live On at The Orange Show’s Expanded Campus
CultureMap Houston brings welcome news: the beloved Art Car Museum, which closed its doors in April 2024, will find new life as part of the expanded campus at the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art. A generous $1.25 million gift from the Harithas family, via the South Texas Charitable Foundation, will ensure that the museum—and the legacy of founders Ann and Jim Harithas—lives on in a permanent, purpose-built space.
The new facility, part of the Orange Show’s long-term redevelopment vision, will house rotating exhibitions of “mobile masterpieces” alongside Ann Harithas’ personal art car collection. With the museum now embedded into a cultural campus that also produces the Art Car Parade, the story of Houston’s outsider art scene comes full circle.
Ann Harithas was widely recognized for elevating the art car movement and for giving voice to underrepresented artists across all mediums. From her own collage work to exhibitions of experimental film, sculpture, and photography, the Art Car Museum’s ethos has always aligned with The Orange Show’s mission: to celebrate unfiltered creativity in all its forms.
As a proud supporter of the Art Car Parade and a communications partner to The Orange Show Center, SULLTRAIN is honored to help spotlight this historic transfer of legacy—ensuring that one of Houston’s most original art institutions continues to inspire future generations.
